A shocking incident unfolded in the Burrabazar area of Kolkata on Saturday, where a police sub-inspector and a constable were critically injured after being attacked by a drug addict. The incident occurred near 67/5 Strand Bank Road under North Port police station limits.
According to officials, Sub-Inspector Parthachand was patrolling the area when he noticed a man named Sultan openly consuming drugs on the footpath. When the officer tried to stop him, Sultan suddenly attacked him with a sharp weapon. Constable Sukhendu Majhi rushed in to help but was also stabbed in the process.
Both officers sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to Medical College Hospital. Their condition remains critical. The attack has sparked concern within the police force and among locals.
Police have arrested Sultan and registered a case under Section 326 of the IPC, along with other relevant sections. The local administration has condemned the attack, assuring that strict action will be taken and the accused will be brought to justice swiftly.
